Blame it on the Blood Moon - Fluid Abstract Painting
Delon Govender, Blame It On The Blood Moon, 2018. Acrylic pour on canvas, 760mm(h) x 1560mm(w).
In Blame It On the Blood Moon, the canvas is a crime scene where paint refuses to behave.
Crimson rivers hemorrhage across the surface, thick and arterial, then thin to frantic capillaries that spider outward as if trying to escape the slaughter they depict. Black pours collide with ivory cascades — violent, deliberate collisions that leave bruises of deep violet and sickly ochre in their wake. The drips do not fall politely; they slash, they claw, they pool like spilled life beneath a poacher’s boot. Every accidental overlap feels inevitable, every "mistake" a confession.
This is not chaos for chaos’s sake. This is the moment greed learns to wear perfume.
Look closer and you can see them: the elegant monsters who commission piano keys carved from orphan bones, who sip champagne while elephants scream in languages no human bothers to translate. Their hands are clean, of course. The blood is always on someone else’s—someone paid in promises and starvation wages to pull triggers in the dark.
The painting does not accuse them directly. It lets the paint do the accusing.
Beauty and atrocity swirl together until you can’t tell where one ends and the other begins—exactly as it happens in the real world, where a carved tusk becomes a status symbol and no one asks whose child will grow up without a mother. And still, no one in the painting—no one in the world—will look in the mirror the canvas holds up.
They blame the moon instead.
This impressively richly textured, thought-provoking and modern contemporary fluid abstract painting is a perfect option for living or office spaces, to add a bold and exquisite statement to finish any room: from local West Australian, Perth-based Artist, Delon Govender.
